Big Head Todd to Perform Benefit for Paralyzed Cat Skiing Photographer

First Tracks Online

Steamboat Springs, CO - While snowboarding with snowcat skiing company Steamboat Powdercats' guides, photographer Dave Genchi hit a rock, lost his balance, tumbled and seriously injured his neck, limiting movement only to his upper extremities. Platinum recording artists and part-time Yampa Valley residents Big Head Todd and the Monsters, former guests of the cat skiing operation, will play a benefit concert for Genchi on March 21st to benefit the Dave Genchi Recovery Fund.

The band has accepted Steamboat Powdercats' invitation to play at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel's Grand Ballroom, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased at the following Steamboat locations: All That Jazz, Christie Sports-Central Park Plaza, the Gondola Square Sport Stalker and at the door the day of the concert. Tickets may also be purchased through Steamboat Central Reservations at (800) 922-2722 or online at www.steamboat.com. All proceeds will go toward Genchi's recovery fund. This special show will be comprised of a unique set of songs not featured when the band plays the next day in Steamboat's Gondola Square.

Since being flown to Craig Hospital in Denver on Jan. 9, Genchi has been taken off a respirator, is breathing on his own and beginning the long road of rehabilitation. His family is facing the enormous costs that Genchi's recovery entails. "The support for Dave has been tremendous thus far and we are looking to top off our fundraising efforts here in Steamboat Springs with an evening with Big Head Todd and the Monsters," explains Kent Vertrees of Steamboat Powdercats.

Admission is $30 and includes one raffle ticket for prizes including a three-night Cozemel scuba vacation, a six-guest trip at Steamboat Powdercats and products from BAP, Smartwool, Salomon, Back Country Access, Mountain Hardware, Crocs and more. Additional raffle tickets will be sold at the show for $5 each or five for $20.

"We are hoping that all the Powdercats Nation will be attending in full force and that you will help us spread the word of this benefit concert," says Vertrees. "We will be accepting more raffle items if anyone wishes to send us some." If you are interested in sending additional raffle items, call Vertrees at the Powdercats office at (970) 879-5188.
