Super Bowl bash is a howl

I watched the Super Bowl last Sunday at a friend's uncle's mini-mansion ... in Nashville, Tenn. The guy's been throwing the big game-day party for 12 years, so you know I had to make the road trip.

The bash was crazy. I figured since the house was a mini-mansion, we'd be hanging with a bunch of pretentious buppies. I was wrong. It was as if someone transported the regulars at Coyote Joe's to this thing.

After the game, the music started. One guy wanted to hear slow songs all night. An older lady boogied to T.I.'s "Top Back." That was funny. I caused a minor uproar when I told a touchy-feely girl to stop touching my head. She stormed out of the room yelling. That was funny, too.

After the real bartenders left, I learned how to make a Buttery Nipple (Butterscotch schnapps and Bailey's), perfected my pomegranate martini, and discovered that apple martinis should be green -- not clear.

Bad time
I knew it wasn't going to be a good night when I saw the security guard in front of Time Lounge on Tuesday: He wore all-black -- including a Neoprene face mask (though it wasn't that cold) -- and looked as if he were itching for a fight. I tried to make small talk. He demanded my ID. Then after he gave it back, Tough Guy was jovial with the girls behind me.Inside, the bartender acted as if it were a chore to sell me a drink, yet the club wasn't crowded. A couple of guys from Boston who got the same treatment said bartenders back home are always rude.

I don't always expect a Coke and a smile, but I don't expect bar staffs to act stank either.

Good time
I went to the Big Head Todd and the Monsters show at the Visulite Theatre because I wanted to see the band that sold out on a Tuesday.

Music fans of a wide age range danced and sang as the band cranked out bluesy and sometimes screechy guitar-rock songs. The only song I recognized was "Boom Boom." But you didn't have to be a fan of Big Head Todd to appreciate good music or the fans' enthusiasm.
